Saturday 2nd February……hot!!!!!!!!
Today we left Stung Treng after breakfast at 7.40.
We figured it would be better to leave early as a hot day was forecast. 37 degrees.
Well, we made good progress until around 10.30 when the heat started to take effect. Despite drinking water like a fish, I still felt pretty dehydrated and tired as a result. We reached our initial target after around 90 kms. It’s the last guest house for about 35 miles and we just didn’t fancy going further in the heat. So, an early finish and we have all just collapsed in our beds!
The road has been great today. Sealed and no dust….and almost no traffic.
This town has no obvious name that we have seen. It’s a fair size with very few cars but lots of busy people. The hotel is pretty shabby but it was probably the poshest building around here once……a very long time ago. Still at £5 per room we don’t care.
Tomorrow we are starting early to get to Preah Vihear, about 50 kilometres. From there we hope to get a two hour taxi ride to a temple complex that is partially hidden by jungle undergrowth and attracts about one visitor per week! It’s supposed to be huge, around 5 kms square. Should be great…..if we can get there…….hopefully some good photos tomorrow……
