Monday 21at January…..
Day spent relaxing in Vientiane, the capital city. Very hot. We visited the COPE museum the morning. A humbling experience that gives an interesting insight into the lives of people affected by unexploded ordnance dropped by the US between 1964 and 1975. People still get killed or maimed each year. There are an estimated 80 million (yes, million) unexploded bombs around the countryside. A shocking statistic.
After that we visited a few sights including the Arc De Triumphe. It was built with cement donated to Laos that was supposed to be used to build an airport runway! Still, it looks better than a runway!
Tomorrow we head south to Kong Lor to visit a 7 kilometres long cave with ceilings described as cathedral height. There’s a river running through it. Should be interesting.
Photos to follow……..
